AS BLACK AS RESISTANCE: FINDING THE CONDITIONS FOR LIBERATION

As Black as Resistance: Finding the Conditions for Liberation, Chico, CA: AK Press, 2018
Zoé Samudzi’s and William C. Anderson’s As Black as Resistance: Finding the Conditions for Liberation is an important and accessible tool for contending with many contradictions in U.S. culture regarding rights, personhood, and democracy. Their attention to how the white imagination and idea of white innocence dominates antiracism approaches and their advocacy for a collective care ethos has helped me to identify and derail violent institutional practices in hegemonic museums. This focus also supports my efforts to make my curatorial praxis work in partnership with and alongside communities fighting networked forces of capitalist anti-Black, patriarchal racial-coloniality.
